The Hidden Cost of Comfort

Comfort feels good. That’s one of the biggest problems even though there is nothing inherently wrong with comfort. A comfortable home is good. A comfortable chair is good. A comfortable relationship is good. A comfortable life can be a blessing. But comfort becomes dangerous when we begin choosing it automatically. Or deferring to the most comfortable option without intentionality. The difficult part is that comfort rarely announces itself as a bad decision. It usually sounds reasonable. You’ve worked hard enough. You can do it tomorrow. There’s no need to change anything. Things are pretty good right now. Why make life harder than it needs to be? Sometimes those statements are completely true. Other times, they are excuses disguised as wisdom. The difference matters because the longer we choose comfort over growth, the easier it becomes to confuse feeling comfortable with actually being where we should be. That is the hidden cost of comfort. A price is being paid, whether we know it or not, for the decisions we make daily.
