Wow, Annie, that is really interesting! I had never considered the similarity between editing writing and editing music! Thank you for illuminating that for me and other readers. Your perspective is ALWAYS appreciated!

Hey Rhys! Thanks for these simple and effective reminders of ways to squeeze out ideas, and for writing in general. These ideas have definitely helped me see how to write a better song, though I still prefer writers to do the lyrics, lol. I find the similarity in music production and editing a MS very similar and interesting….. you said, “ When the editing process begins, the first step is to see what entire sections or characters can be completely eliminated from the story. Why? Because often there are sections or characters that DO NOT progress the plot forward.”. We do this with instruments as our characters, and song sections that don’t progress the song. I get a knowing chuckle from reading the remarks of writers going through the editing or critique process, and listening to the fight to keep something…. (for me, it’s my harmonica…..we need it!) Will be reading you more often for advice as I assume being primary caregiver for my parents now. Mom on dialysis. I find moments under their old, shady oak, and I know you will have a nugget or five of life advice I can apply. I hope you are all well. Sending summer wishes and hugs. Peace, Princess Annie of the Zephron Galaxy (we recognize Life Yodas as our wise elders…but I think I am elder, LOL!)

So true, Lorraine. Anyone re-working their opening lines is in GOOD company. Anyone who isn't...better already have the story published!
