In reply to <a href="https://rhyskeller.com/on-making-time/#comment-6612">Annie Lynn</a>.

It's been said success in anything IS NOT some straight line, as in, work on X hobby every day at X time and eventually BOOM. Instead, success (and successful people) constantly are adapting to their environment. They just keep trying, sometimes for 5 minutes one day, an hour the next, and then they don't return to the project for a week due to other demands. The marker though on those who make it, is that they keep coming back. They keep trying to find time when the priorities can work out. So, you're doing EXACTLY what the most successful people in life do...monitoring priorities and fitting projects in when you can without letting guilt or burden weigh you down and hold you back. You are a STAR! Keep up the great work and get some sleep (and some takeout)!

Well, I am laughing my butt off Rhys. My advice to myself went down the drain, as we added a puppy to the mix, and now a son receiving Remicade infusions for Crohn’s & Dr. appts. Just those few items pulled me further away from free time. My free time is late at night, and like you, writing time grabbed while waiting in a car or for a car. Or the restroom (tmi) I realize that Momming, even a college kid, is where my priorities lay, and that for now, I just need to grab creative time where I can. My guys don’t cook much (d.h. does on weekends!) so if I don’t make dinner, they eat horrible stuff. Then I get to hear “I shouldn’t have eaten that…” Even thoughI call it Resentment Cooking, I still love the people I’m cooking for, so I know I made the right decision. Weekends are where I feel the most room to create, as we record on weekends and lots of new ideas come from those sessions. Well, gotta get dressed….off to the Vet again….round 3 of shots. sigh…… stay well Rhys. Keep up the good advice…May the Force be with you…

Thanks for sharing the update, Annie! I think it's great that you made time in a way that works best for you. Too often we are subject to the whims of the world and everyone ends up suffering for it. I'm excited to see how your creative successes continue to grow with more intentional margin being made!

Hi Rhys! I hope you are all well. I tried for a little more than a week, getting only 5 hours of sleep a night. My family requested I go back to six. I did notice, of course that i had time to myself that I usually don’t get. I just needed more sleep. I didn’t feel more creative. I don’t drink a lot of caffeine.
I decided to reclaim time, by asking that twice a week (three preferred) my family make their own meals at dinner, leaving me free for an extra hour to hour and a half. It actually has been working out well ( you don’t want to know their food choices! I left healthy stuff! ) Not my problem. probably. I would opine that writers and artists….all creatives really, ask their families to do a little more for themselves, as age appropriate. My friends yelled at me for making a 9 year old breakfast. They came in and taught him how to use the microwave, lol. It was actually revolutionary! . Also less social media, though I am missing out on so much. I always appreciate your views Rhys, even if I don’t or won’t agree. You still offer gems for me. Stay well and creative friend.
